Sleep Soak – Herbal Bath Soak
A calming, night-time ritual to quiet the mind, relax the body, and settle into restful sleep.
🌿 Traditional Herbal Perspective (TCM-Inspired)
In traditional East Asian herbalism, night-time rest is supported by Heart–Shen calm, smooth Liver Qi, and nourished Blood/Yin. When the spirit is unsettled or Liver Qi is tight, the mind may race and muscles hold tension. Sleep Soak is crafted to nourish Blood/Yin, soothe Liver Qi, extinguish internal wind/tension, and gently calm the Shen so the body can exhale into sleep.
How Each Herb Contributes (TCM Roles)
- Suan Zao Ren (Ziziphus jujuba seed) — Nourishes Heart/Liver Blood and Yin; calms the Shen and helps settle wakefulness. In synergy: anchors the formula; pairs with Bai Shao for gentle, sustained calm.
 - Bai Shao (Paeonia lactiflora) — Nourishes Blood/Yin; relaxes spasms and softens constrained Liver. In synergy: eases somatic tension that keeps the mind alert.
 - Tian Ma (Gastrodia elata) — Extinguishes internal wind, soothes Liver, eases head/neck tension. In synergy: smooths the transition to stillness.
 - Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) — From a TCM lens, gently soothes Liver Qi and harmonizes the middle; calms the spirit. In synergy: soft, settling base note with Bai Shao.
 - Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) — Calms Shen, harmonizes Heart–Liver; eases restlessness. In synergy: centers the blend and signals “bedtime.”
 - Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) — Aromatic mover that disperses constrained Qi and lightens heaviness. In synergy: clears the day’s “stuck” feeling without stimulation.
 - Hops Flowers (Humulus lupulus) — Bitter, settling; from a TCM lens, helps clear Heart heat and relax agitation. In synergy: deepens the descending, drowsy direction.

TCM Synergy: The blend nourishes and anchors while gently unwinding Liver tension and quieting Shen—supporting a smooth glide into sleep without heaviness the next day.
💧 Modern Herbal & Scientific Perspective
From a modern view, restful sleep is encouraged by neurocalming aromatics, gentle neuromuscular relaxation, and a wind-down ritual that signals safety to the nervous system. Sleep Soak combines soothing volatile oils with traditional calm-supporting botanicals for a multi-pathway bedtime soak.
Neurocalming & Sleep Signaling
- Suan Zao Ren — rich in saponins (e.g., jujubosides) traditionally associated with sleep support and tranquil settling.
 - Hops Flowers — bitter resins and alpha acids historically used for rest; soothing, descending “drowsy” feel.
 - Chamomile — gentle flavonoids (e.g., apigenin) linked to relaxation and winding down at night.
 - Lavender — aromatic linalool/linalyl acetate widely appreciated for perceived relaxation and sleep quality signals.

Muscle Ease & Tension Release
- Bai Shao — traditionally associated with antispasmodic effects; helps the body “let go.”
 - Tian Ma — known historically for head/neck comfort and easing internal “windy” restlessness.

Mood & Sensory Calm
- Lavender & Chamomile — soothing aromatics that many people associate with bedtime routines.
 - Lemongrass — bright, clarifying top-note that refreshes without stimulation; helps transition from “busy mind” to “settled.”

Modern Synergy: Aromatic calm signals the brain that it’s safe to rest; muscle-easing herbs reduce somatic “noise”; the warm bath ritual completes the message—helping mind and body align for sleep.
🧂 Why a Mineral Salt Base?
The mineral base prepares the bath water and your skin so the botanicals can work gently and effectively.
- Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate) — supplies magnesium; warm-bath use is commonly associated with muscle relaxation and overall ease.
 - Sea Salt — trace minerals help maintain an osmotic balance and a refreshed skin feel.
 - Pink Himalayan Salt — adds additional trace minerals and a soft, natural hue.
 - Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbate) — helps neutralize chlorine/chloramine in tap water to keep aromas soft and skin feel gentle.

Together: salts soften water, promote relaxation, and create a comfortable medium for the herbal infusion—enhancing the overall soak experience.
🛁 How to Use (Best Results)
- Steep/Boil First: Place the Herbal Blend pouch in a small pot with ~4–6 cups of water. Bring to a gentle simmer, cover, and steep 10–15 minutes (or up to 20 for a stronger infusion).
 - Prepare the Bath: Dissolve the Salt Blend under warm running water.
 - Pour the Tea: Strain (or remove pouch) and pour the hot herbal “tea” into the tub. Stir to combine. (You may also add the pouch to the tub to continue steeping.)
 - Soak & Breathe: Soak for about 20 minutes. Breathe slowly and allow warmth and aroma to signal “bedtime.”

Tip: Add the infusion near the end of filling the tub to keep aromatics fresh and noticeable.
Safety & Care: For external use only. Avoid during pregnancy unless cleared by your provider. Discontinue if irritation occurs. Individuals with medical conditions or allergies should consult a healthcare provider before use.
